Popcorn Time beta 3.10 (desktop)

There’s a new desktop (Windows, Mac and Linux) version out from the popcorntime.sh fork aka. official Popcorn Time. The developers had announced that they were going to focus on working on Butter (which is the back bone of the fork) but it looks like they’ve also found time to improve Popcorn Time itself.

Going through the list we don’t find any major updates but mostly under the hood stuff. We shouldn’t complain though, it’s already a solid piece of software with all the features one could ask for.

Most will only notice the change in how subtitles are handled. As it says, there’s no longer a drop-down list but subtitles are automatically fetched based on the language settings in preferences. We think it’s a small but nice improvement giving a “cleaner” user interface without taking anything away from the experience. We do, after all, primarily want to use subs in the same language every time.

If you’ve already got the popcorntime.sh fork installed it will notify you there’s a new beta out. However, it won’t download and update automagically so you’ll have to do that manually.
