The developer group from popcorntime.io responsible for the “official” Popcorn Time application have just released their latest Android app: beta 2.0. It’s been a long time since the first version of the app came out which only did the bare minimum and lacked some of the features found in the app from time4popcorn that has been out for a very long time now. Without built in support for Chromecast and AirPlay use of the app was quite limited to only playback on the device itself.
The new app looks like the app has been completely reworked and “2.0” supports the assumption; popcorntime.io have really stepped up things and now seem to have the best Popcorn Time Android app available. Beta 2.0 has a very nice and clean looking user interface that works well without too much fuzz. The menu contains the well known categories for movies, TV-shows and anime which can all be sorted by popularity, age, rating etc. and you can of course also search for content. In the settings section you can adjust Popcorn Time to your specific liking and to this author’s knowledge popcorntime.io versions are the only that let the users play around with torrent settings which can be helpful on difficult network connection.
An extremely important part of the update is supporte for playback with Chromecast, AirPlay and DLNA. This gives users the possibility of watching content not just on the mobile unit itself but also on a TV. Popcorntime.io are the only developers that have implemented DLNA functionality which allows remote playback directly on supported Smart TVs.
