Torrents Time
Torrents Time is a browser plugin that turns any torrent site into a video streaming website — letting you stream content directly in your browser without a separate application.
What Is Torrents Time?
Torrents Time is a browser plugin that enables torrent-based video streaming directly inside a web browser. Instead of downloading a standalone app, users install the plugin and can then stream content from participating torrent sites. It uses VLC for video playback and works across Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.
There are two competing versions of Torrents Time, developed by different groups. They share a similar concept but differ significantly in their approach and security posture.
Torrents Time V1.0
The original Torrents Time release gained traction by allowing any torrent site to add streaming functionality with minimal code changes. Several websites adopted it, integrating the plugin to offer instant playback of torrent-based content.
Security warning: Serious security concerns were identified with Torrents Time V1.0. Researchers found vulnerabilities that could expose users to risk, and users should exercise caution if they encounter sites still running this version.
Torrents Time V2.0
Torrents Time V2.0 was developed as an open-source alternative by a competing group. It improves on V1.0 and is designed to work on any torrent site. The open-source nature of V2.0 allows community scrutiny of its code, addressing some of the trust concerns that plagued the earlier version.
V2.0 retains the same core promise — browser-based torrent streaming via a plugin — while aiming for greater transparency and broader compatibility.
How It Works
Once the Torrents Time plugin is installed in a supported browser, participating websites can trigger torrent streams that play through VLC. The plugin handles the torrent protocol in the background, buffering and playing video as the data arrives — similar to how a desktop Popcorn Time client works, but entirely within the browser.
Compatible browsers include Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and Internet Explorer. VLC media player is required on the system for playback to function.
